Rundoo: one operating system for supply stores, with limits beyond catalog work

Rundoo connects point of sale, inventory, purchasing, contractor accounts, delivery and customer payments for independent supply stores. Its reported outcomes are promising but provider-controlled, and configured trusses or engineered bills of materials remain an explicit boundary.

Independent hardware, paint, farm-and-feed, garden and lumber stores often run sales, inventory, purchasing, delivery, contractor credit and e-commerce through disconnected systems. The result is duplicated data and slow answers: staff may know that stock exists without knowing what is committed, what can be ordered, which price applies or whether the customer has paid. Rundoo’s proposition is to place those workflows in one browser-based point-of-sale and enterprise resource planning system rather than add another chatbot to a fragmented stack. 1 4

What Rundoo connects

The platform covers product and customer search, checkout, inventory, purchasing, pricing, general ledger, contractor charge accounts, statements, quotes, delivery, customer payments, e-commerce, loyalty and reporting. For lumber and building-material stores, the documented flow runs from takeoff and quote through staged sales, special orders, purchase orders, receiving, transfers, delivery scheduling, proof of delivery and payment. Units such as piece, board foot, MBF, linear foot and pallet are supported, with on-hand, committed, available and on-order stock distinguished. 2 4

Data migration is central. Rundoo describes importing products, customers and contractor accounts, accounts-receivable balances, special pricing, statement settings and tax-exempt IDs. Vendor connections can update costs and support ordering; Orgill and Blish-Mize are described as live for catalog, electronic data interchange, receiving and price-change workflows, while LBM Advantage is still on the roadmap. QuickBooks Online and Stripe are evidenced. 2 4 13 15

AI assistance with a human checkpoint

Rundoo’s late-2025 shift from “all-in-one POS” to “AI-first POS” introduced an Analyze/Act/Automate framing. Dooey can read sales, inventory, ledger and receivables, answer questions and draft a sale, transfer or purchase order for a person to review. Dooey can draft purchase orders, margin reports, daily summaries and dormant-customer outreach. These are product claims and demonstrations, not independent benchmark results or evidence that every commercial action is committed autonomously. 1 5

The retained cases report concrete outcomes. A trade-publication partner article comparing the year before each store’s go-live with the year after reports average sales growth of 17%, charge-account balances down 25%, and gross margin up 2 percentage points. It does not disclose sample size, controls, seasonality, mix, implementation costs or causal attribution, so this is observational, not a controlled return-on-investment result. 9

Other provider-controlled accounts are narrower. Missouri River Lumber’s owner reports saving 10–20 hours per week after a December 2025 go-live. AllPro Paint queried 20 high-spending 2022 accounts that were not buying in 2025; 10 purchased within three months within three months. A four-store paint operator’s Daily AI Summary identified more than $4,200 in pricing margin over ten weeks, while weekly reporting fell from 5–8 hours to under one hour. These are anecdotes without independent verification or a counterfactual. 10 11 12

Where the fit stops

Rundoo is credible for stocked or vendor-catalog materials with units, prices, inventory and customer or job context. The largest documented risk is custom, non-SKU work. The LBM Journal article says trusses and configured window-and-door packages are bill-of-materials work Rundoo is not built for. The official industry page places jobsite payment and kits or bills of materials for doors, windows and millwork in product direction whose scope and timing may change. Drawings, revisions, tolerances, capacity, co-design and binding-versus-indicative quotes need a separate controlled evaluation; silence is not evidence of support. 2 9

An illustrative pilot for a distributor

An illustrative application would be one store or yard with clean catalog data and a defined contractor workflow. Migrate a bounded set of items, accounts receivable, customer accounts, price tiers and opening inventory. Reconcile units, costs, tax identifiers, permissions and committed stock against the old system before connecting vendor catalogs, QuickBooks and Stripe. Let Dooey surface reorder, margin, receivable and dormant-customer exceptions, but keep approval with the named owner for prices, purchase orders, transfers, messages and payments.

Measure migration corrections, exception rates, review minutes, stock-outs, margin leakage and duplicate actions before expanding. Require a written quote because subscription, setup, integrations and payment rates are not public; hardware may be separate. A pilot can test catalog-commerce friction. It cannot establish engineered configuration capability or causal ROI. 3 4
