Soource: supplier discovery before the approved RFQ

The Bolzano procurement platform shows how AI can organise fragmented supplier discovery, qualification and outreach without becoming an autonomous purchasing system. Its public claims point to a practical pilot, but not yet to verified sourcing quality, savings or integration outcomes.

Finding a capable industrial supplier is often harder than issuing the eventual request for quotation. Soource, founded in Bolzano in 2024, addresses this front half of source-to-contract rather than presenting public evidence of autonomous purchasing. 1 4 5

What Soource is designed to do

Soource describes a workflow that starts with a sourcing need, searches a proprietary international supplier database, enriches or collects supplier information, sends requests for information or quotation, follows up, parses responses and supports qualification and document checks. Its discovery workshop maps a buyer’s rules, thresholds and approval levels, with agents operating across email, spreadsheets and enterprise systems. The company positions specialised agents and verified or certified supplier data as the differentiator from a generic chatbot. 1 2 4

The workflow appears to stop before a purchase decision. Public descriptions say operators retain higher-value activities, while the platform finds, qualifies, compares, contacts and enriches suppliers. Soource also describes plug-and-play or bidirectional exchange with SAP Ariba, Jaggaer and other enterprise systems, but no public connector specification, application programming interface documentation, export schema or production certification was found. The boundary between internal assistance and outbound supplier email should be clarified in a pilot. 4 9 11

What the public record actually reports

The official demo page claims that 50+ companies are already working with Soource, that a workshop can lead to a first live workflow in 4–8 weeks, and that the discovery workshop takes 60 minutes. These are vendor claims: no customer names, denominator, sector breakdown, production-versus-pilot split or measurement method is supplied. 2

A March 2025 founder interview says traditional supplier sourcing averages three months and 40 hours per search. That is an unverified benchmark with no sample, period, category mix or before-and-after Soource comparison, so it must not be converted into a claimed Soource saving. The retained research found no named customer case with independently verified sourcing quality, response rate, savings, purchasing conversion or return on investment. 8 11

Data quality is the industrial test

For an Italian manufacturer, dealer or distributor, a sourcing brief may contain material grade, units, tolerance, equipment, capacity, certification, plant, drawing and revision requirements rather than a clean stock-keeping unit. A pilot should require canonical entity and plant identity, capability evidence, certificate validity, revision identifiers, timestamps, currency, delivery terms and lead time.

The system should preserve source and revision lineage, flag unit or material incompatibility, deduplicate entities and quarantine stale certificates or prices. Supplier documents may contain useful facts but must not become instructions to change permissions or write to an enterprise system. A buyer should retain approval of the shortlist, outreach, comparison, award and any system write. Public material says data is processed in Europe under the General Data Protection Regulation, but no public security attestations or detailed access, retention, subprocessor, audit-log or model-training documentation was found. 2 4 11

An illustrative Italian sourcing pilot

Consider an illustrative machinery or robotics producer seeking a non-catalogue component. This is not a reported Soource deployment. Start with one category and compare its candidate set with a known-good supplier set. Require evidence-backed matches for capability, material, tolerance, equipment and capacity. Run an approved request-for-information sequence, measure valid responses, false positives and reviewer time, then test export or write-back without corrupting the supplier master.

Keep indicative estimates separate from binding offers. The procurement owner remains authoritative for supplier selection, negotiation and release. A useful result would be a faster, traceable starting point for qualified human work—not proof that the platform can buy, create a purchase order, pay or guarantee savings.

Commercial fit and limits

Soource is a plausible Italy-first or European pilot where supplier scouting is repeated and human control is desired. It is a weaker fit for a buyer requiring globally exhaustive coverage, certified native integrations, formal security documentation or automated purchasing authority. Airframe reports Free, Pro at €39 per month, Business and Enterprise tiers, but the official pricing page was not verified; enterprise terms and integration fees remain unknown. 11

The practical decision is to test coverage, evidence quality, revision accuracy, response quality, export behaviour and exception handling under a pre-registered baseline. Treat 50+ companies, the 4–8 week claim and the 3-month/40-hour benchmark as attributed claims until buyer records and denominators are supplied.
