Didero: procurement agents can coordinate the queue, not approve the quote

Didero’s AGC Chemicals case shows how an agent can discover suppliers, chase RFQs, process documents and update Dynamics 365 while people retain commercial and technical authority. The useful lesson is to pilot a bounded procurement workflow and measure realised work, not vendor-modeled savings.

Manufacturing procurement is spread across supplier email, purchase orders, enterprise resource planning (ERP) records, spreadsheets, invoices and receiving documents. The difficult work is interpreting requests, contacting suppliers, comparing responses, updating the system of record and escalating what the workflow cannot safely decide.

Didero’s role in the procurement queue

Didero, founded in 2023 by Tim Spencer, Lorenz Pallhuber and Tom Petit, positions itself as an agentic layer over existing email, ERP, spreadsheet and supplier-document workflows rather than as an ERP replacement. Its scope includes supplier communication, sourcing and requests for quotation (RFQs), purchase-order tracking, exception handling, accounts payable and document extraction. The product launched generally available in July 2024; the company now claims 100+ mid-market and enterprise deployments and thousands of agents in production. These are company claims, not an independently measured adoption study. 1 2 3 4 8

The strongest named workflow is AGC Chemicals Americas. Didero interprets applications or price ranges, discovers and filters potential raw-material suppliers, sends and follows up on RFQs, consolidates responses and prepares commercial benchmarks. AGC procurement staff still vet the finalists. In the document flow, agents monitor supplier inboxes, classify certificates of analysis and receiving documents, extract lot and batch fields, attach documents to the appropriate records, update Microsoft Dynamics 365 and route exceptions to people. 6 7

This is more than search, but not evidence of autonomous technical or commercial approval. The public case does not show Didero validating tolerances or material compatibility, reserving capacity, generating engineering drawings, replacing an estimator or issuing a binding custom-work quote. An indicative comparison must remain separate from an approved offer.

What the reported outcomes mean

An AGC supply-chain director told Supply Chain World that one early Didero-suggested vendor change produced approximately $75,000 in annualised savings. The interview discloses no counterfactual, spend baseline, currency qualification or audited causal attribution; AGC’s human vetting and broader Dynamics 365 and inventory changes also matter when assigning credit. 6

Didero’s own customer account reports that one unnamed customer reduced past-due order line items from 2,300 to 261 in a few weeks after agents emailed suppliers and updated the ERP. Recommendations first ran with an audit trail before autonomous production use. This provider-reported before/after claim has no defined denominator, production-control details or independent corroboration. 5

Other public figures need the same discipline. Didero’s AGC case study claims 1,200+ automated vendor touchpoints and 21% average savings on Didero-led sourcing projects, without a clear baseline, project count, currency or period in the retained page extraction. Its homepage presents 50% team capacity freed for FABCO in six months and 100+ deployments; its calculator’s $5 million savings and 89% time-back figures are based on similar companies, not a named customer result. 7 8

A bounded application for a manufacturer

Consider this as an illustrative application, not a reported deployment: start with supplier discovery plus RFQ response comparison, or overdue-PO chasing plus ERP update. Provide the agent with approved supplier and part identities, revision, units, material, price-validity rules, lead time, capacity information, permissions and the source messages or documents behind each field. Keep new-supplier creation, price or terms changes, technical substitutions, payments and binding offers behind named human approvals.

Didero’s guidance recommends a narrow task with read access, action triggers and defined escalation paths. It says focused deployments can go live in weeks and the homepage says under three weeks; these are vendor implementation claims, not independent benchmarks. The company has not publicly disclosed a connector catalogue, API specification, export schema, supported-system matrix beyond the evidenced Dynamics 365 and generic email/ERP descriptions, or list pricing. 3 6 8 9

A responsible pilot should begin in recommendation or sandbox mode with immutable audit trails and duplicate-action controls. Compare baseline and after-state cycle time, exception rate, false extraction rate, duplicate actions, review effort and realised—not modelled—savings. The system can prepare and coordinate the work; procurement, engineering, quality and commercial owners must remain authoritative where an error changes what may be bought, supplied or promised.
