A buyer may know the category it needs without knowing which brand or supplier can fulfil it. Faire addresses that discovery problem with a two-sided wholesale marketplace: brands upload catalogues and set terms; approved buyers search, order, pay and manage returns. Faire supports standardized catalog buying, not bespoke engineering quotation or approval.
What Faire does—and where it stops
Faire, founded in 2017, lets brands apply, publish products and manage orders while retailers create free accounts, search listings and, when eligible, use Net 60 terms. Faire provides transaction and payment infrastructure and offers free returns for 60 days on a retailer’s first order from each brand. Coverage includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand; eligibility, tax, shipping and category rules vary by market. 1 4 13
The workflow stops at discovery, commercial ordering, payment, returns and operational integration. The retained research found no evidence of engineering drawing or revision control, tolerance review, capacity reservation, co-design, negotiated project quotation or a binding industrial offer. Non-SKU custom work therefore needs a separate intake, document/version process, technical review and human quote approval.
For North American brands, published marketplace economics are a 15% commission plus a one-time $10 new-customer fee; Faire Direct orders are at 0% commission. Payout processing is 3.5% + $0.30 next day, 2.4% + $0.30 at 30 days, or 1.9% + $0.30 at 60 days. These are commercial terms, not an ROI result: margin, shipping, duties, tax, returns, payment timing, staff review and duplicate-SKU cleanup belong in the business case. 2 3
Scale is useful only with clean product records
Brands can connect through partners such as Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Shipstation and inventory or accounting tools, and Faire provides an open brand API for catalog, inventory, orders, fulfilment and reporting. Retailers have POS connections for Shopify, Square, Clover and Lightspeed Retail X-Series; only one POS can be connected to a Faire account, and no retailer API is documented. 2 11 12
The POS integration can sync images, titles, descriptions, categories, prices, taxes and SKU fields, refreshing every 30 minutes. Faire requires an individual SKU but not a UPC or barcode. Lightspeed inventory flows one way into Faire, the integration does not create purchase orders, and adding an item instead of linking an existing record can create duplicates or incorrect supplier information. Controls should include canonical SKU and entity IDs, variant/unit/tax validation, duplicate detection before creation, approval for new products, reconciliation and an emergency disconnect. 12
Reported outcomes need their denominators
Faire reports that, since 2022, international retailer spend rose 20% per order and 156% per year, international brands received 123% more orders, and more than one in five new retailer-brand relationships produced a second order within 90 days. These are provider-reported cohort comparisons with no disclosed control group, absolute baseline or independent audit. 8
Its March 2026 Lightspeed announcement reports nearly 75,000 integrated retailers and more than 10 million products synced, plus nearly 20% more orders among retailers with deeper integration. That is an observational association, not randomized causal ROI. Faire also describes nearly 5,000 pilot business-use buyers placing millions of dollars of orders after expansion to restaurants, hotels, corporate buyers and event companies. Named users include JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square; brands retain opt-in and order-approval controls. 9 10
Linen Tales reported more than $3 million in order volume and nearly 2,000 retailers; this is a company-published testimonial, not an independently measured customer return. 8 13
The growth lesson and an illustrative pilot
Faire’s later account describes falling retention, incentive-driven customers, complaints and site slowdown, followed by spending and headcount reductions. TechCrunch reported approximately 250 layoffs, or 20% of staff, in November 2023 after an earlier 7% cut; CEO-reported 2025 recovery figures were not documented for the CNBC interview. Test retained reorders and contribution quality, not registrations or AI novelty. 7 14
For an illustrative industrial workshop, Faire could be tested for standardized safety supplies, office goods, hospitality products or dealer-resale SKUs. This is not a reported deployment. Define supplier, item, variant, unit, tax and landed-cost fields; sample AI-generated descriptions for factual errors; and require a named buyer or finance owner to approve vendors, prices, quantities, duties and payments. Measure duplicates, stockout or oversell exceptions, reorders, landed cost and staff hours against a baseline. Broader AI-assisted buying remains conditional because no shipped specification, permissions model or audit trail was verified. 10 15
