UpSmith: service-revenue recovery is not industrial RFQ automation

UpSmith shows how a ServiceTitan-connected platform can target missed calls, unsold estimates and dormant customers for home-service operators. Its substantial public outcome claims are useful pilot hypotheses, but not independently measured causal ROI or proof of bespoke industrial quoting.

A home-services operator can have revenue sitting in its own records: a missed call, an unsold estimate, an expired membership, an overdue maintenance visit or a customer whose equipment is nearing replacement. The challenge is following up consistently without sending the wrong message or making an unauthorised commitment. UpSmith is a Dallas-based vendor aimed at that service-revenue recovery problem, not a demonstrated system for bespoke industrial quoting.

The current workflow

UpSmith describes an artificial-intelligence profit engine connected to a contractor’s ServiceTitan database. Its public positioning combines record scanning, customer engagement by text and recovered-revenue tracking. Named workflows include lead and web-form response, appointment confirmation and rescheduling, membership renewal and reactivation, maintenance reminders, replacement-candidate identification from equipment age and service history, and cold-estimate follow-up. HVAC, plumbing and electrical operators are the named trades. 1

Ask Jenny is the clearest publicly described data workflow. A contractor connects a ServiceTitan tenant, asks questions in natural language, receives answers and can export a list for follow-up. UpSmith says synchronisation takes about five minutes on one page and under 60 seconds in its frequently asked questions; these are vendor claims, not independently timed implementation results. The page says access is limited to data the customer permitted UpSmith to view and that data is read in real time. 2 Ask Jenny is presented as analysis, explanation and export, while broader product pages extend into two-way messaging, appointment handling and reactivation. An October 2026 funding announcement introduced an artificial-intelligence voice agent for inbound calls and a unified customer timeline, but broad production availability is not established. 4

What the public results show

The strongest evidence is provider-published named-customer evidence rather than an audited, customer-authored study. The Series A release reports more than 5,000 completed jobs recovered from unsold estimates at HomeTown Services in 2026, a 34% reduction in cancellations at Five Star Home Services in Ohio, and $147,000 in new revenue for Medley AC over three months, alongside a reported 25% cancellation reduction. It does not disclose eligible-customer denominators, comparison periods, controls, gross versus net revenue or the share attributable to UpSmith rather than staff or other marketing. 3 4

Ask Jenny reports $2.4 million in closed estimates for Rescue Air and Plumbing over 90 days; $1.68 million in completed revenue for Advanced Air Conditioning and Heating over seven months from 1,744 personalised conversations; and $901,000 in completed revenue for Roland Black from 881 UpSmith-attributed jobs and 375 converting customers. It also reports 23,361 conversations handled for Snyder AC Plumbing and Electric over four months and a 99.45% autonomous conversation-handling rate for Roland Black. “Closed,” “completed” and “revenue” are not defined as booked, collected or incremental contribution, and no counterfactual is supplied. These are reported operating claims and test hypotheses, not causal ROI. 2

Evolution and commercial boundary

UpSmith launched in 2022 around skilled-worker recruiting, screening, verification, retention and paid eight-week training accelerators for manufacturing, construction and home services. The early account describes pilots involving Associated Builders in Tennessee and American Residential Services in Dallas and Houston, plus a $3.3 million pre-seed. 5 By 2026, the company had evolved toward a ServiceTitan-connected AI platform for home-service profitability. The reviewed sources disclose no acquisition, shutdown or failed feature; planned expansion into other sectors is not confirmed. 3 5

This makes UpSmith relevant to repeat-service sales, maintenance memberships, repairs, replacements and installation. It does not publicly demonstrate drawings, revisions, material or tolerance compatibility, tooling, capacity checks or binding custom-work quotations. A ServiceTitan integration and a natural-language answer are not authority to confirm a price, equipment model, job status or customer identity.

An illustrative governed pilot

For an illustrative HVAC or electrical service operation, start with a fixed cohort of missed calls, unsold estimates, lapsed memberships and dormant customers. Define eligible records, freeze relevant status and price fields, and hold out comparable records where possible. Require human approval for high-value bookings, unusual requests and commitments that change price or scope.

Measure contacted, delivered, replied, booked, completed, cancelled, collected and incremental gross-margin outcomes—not only conversations or booked pipeline. Preserve permission-scoped access, deduplication, suppression lists, immutable logs, escalation rules and reconciliation to completed jobs. Public pricing for seats, usage, SMS or voice, setup, integration and support was not found, so implementation and migration effort remain part of the decision. 2
